A cabinet manufacturer has to fulfill two things at the same time: flexibility for the customer and precision for the factory.
A customer may want a cabinet in almost any constraint. The manufacturing team however, cannot build from “almost any.” They need an exact list from dimensions to hardware for every order.
That is where the Bill of materials becomes challenging.
Maintaining a separate BOM for every possible configuration quickly becomes unmanageable. On the other hand, a generic BOM still leaves the manufacturing team to determine what changes for each order.
UWAREONE addresses this by making the configurable cabinet model as the source of the BOM.
Instead of defining every cabinet variation separately, the model uses configurable parameters and manufacturing rules to determine how each cabinet should be built. Formulas then translate these choices into the required components and quantities.
When a specific configuration is selected from that model, UWAREONE derives the actual cabinet SKU based on the selected configuration. The SKU is therefore not a manually maintained BOM, it is a specific resolved instance of the underlying manufacturing model.
The logic can also exist at multiple levels. For example, a drawer assembly can have its own BOM and be manufactured independently or become a component of a larger cabinet assembly.
This makes the BOM more than a static document. It becomes the manufacturing definition that drives downstream processes such as planning, cutting, scheduling, production and shipping.
Traditional ERP systems can manage standard processes and many systems are built around predefined product structures and need extra configuration for highly variable products. In such cases, businesses may require additional configuration tools or a CPQ layer to capture customer-specific requirements and ensure accurate information flows into ERP processes.
UWAREONE is built to ease that difficulty. It provides a formalized way of defining raw materials, corresponding constraint values and prices that can support both standard and highly customized orders.
When the configuration reaches the shop floor, the question is no longer what it means. Because, the BOM has already translated it into what needs to be built.
When Every Cabinet Is Configurable, the BOM Has to Be Smarter.
